This huge project occupied Davidson Architecture for three years until it's completion in 2016.
The project is Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) Plant for domestic waste from the Sydney local council areas, and is unprecedented in Australia, although prevalent in Europe and Asia as a waste disposal option. In essence, it provides a new approach to waste, which is processed to provide composting of all organic material and reduce the landfill rates by half.
The design of this project required extensive consultation with the users and also the suppliers and manufacturers of the massive processing systems. There are four process buildings on site, along with an amenities and admin block, and the site layout had to be extensively workshopped and checked for vehicle circulation and a functional relationship between the various processes and their interconnecting conveyor systems.
